First Year of the eAlim Program
A strong foundation in the Qur'an, Arabic, ʿaqīdah, fiqh, sīrah, and hadith methodology, taught through a structured and practical approach to Islamic learning.

This first semester lays a solid foundation in classical Islamic studies with a practical, modern approach. You'll study Qur'anic recitation with tajwīd and selected memorization, begin Arabic through essential naḥw and ṣarf, and build core understanding in ʿaqīdah, sīrah, and the fiqh of worship (ṭahārah and ṣalāh). You'll also get a friendly introduction to hadith methodology, along with study skills and digital-research habits that help you verify sources with confidence.
By the end, you'll be equipped to connect timeless guidance to everyday life—leading small study circles, answering common questions with evidence, and practising your faith with clarity and care. Your growing Arabic toolbox opens the door to reading primary texts, while your digital literacy helps you filter online content, create clear learning resources, and serve your community through ethical, well-informed engagement. This is the springboard for deeper study in the semesters ahead.
By the end of the first semester
You will be able to:
Recite the Qur'an with correct tajwīd articulation points (makhārij), the qualities of letters (ṣifāt), and the rules of noon sākin, tanwīn, meem sākin, madd, and stopping (waqf), and memorize a selection of short sūrahs.
Read foundational Arabic: build core vocabulary and sentence structure, recognise the three categories of words (ism, fiʿl, ḥarf), apply the grammatical cases (iʿrāb), and conjugate verbs through ṣarf.
Read graded classical Arabic prose, including the stories of the prophets, turning grammar and morphology into fluent reading and comprehension.
Explain the essentials of ʿaqīdah—divine oneness and attributes, prophethood, predestination, and the afterlife— on the way of Ahl al-Sunna wa 'l-Jamāʿa.
Apply the Ḥanafī fiqh of worship: the rulings of ṭahārah (wuḍū', ghusl, tayammum) and ṣalāh.
Trace the sīrah of the Prophet ﷺ and draw practical lessons from his life.
Memorize a set of short, authentic ahadith and understand their meanings and vocabulary.
Build sound study habits and ethical digital-research skills for checking Islamic content online.
Each lesson is short and builds on the last—simple examples first, guided practice, regular feedback, and review checkpoints so the knowledge stays with you.
Structured learning that fits your schedule.
Live online classes — Monday to Thursday evenings, with recordings posted on ealim.org so you can catch up or revise. About two hours each evening (6:00–8:00 PM), in short, focused subject sessions. The year runs in two terms: Term 1 begins in September and ends with a revision week and exams in January; Term 2 runs through to July. This page covers the first semester (Term 1). Scheduled breaks run through the year, including a winter break and breaks for the two Eids.

This semester is taught by Ustādh Ibrahim Sharif and Ustādh Mohammad Bari, both students of Shaykh Muḥammad Ibrāhīm Memon Madani, a recognised scholar and the author of Āsān Naḥw, one of the very textbooks studied in this course.
Shaykh Ibrāhīm is the son of Dr. Ismail Memon Madani, founder of Darul Uloom al-Madania in Buffalo, New York—the institution behind the eAlim program.
Their teaching follows the classical Ḥanafī/Deobandi tradition: complex topics explained simply, with room for questions and steady, encouraging feedback.
